Marble House was constructed between 1888 and 1892 for Mr. and Mrs. William K. Vanderbilt. It was a summer season house, or “cottage,” as Newporters known as them in remembrance of the modest homes of the early 19th century. But Marble House was much more; it was a social and architectural landmark that set the tempo for Newport’s subsequent transformation from a quiet summer time colony of picket homes to the legendary resort of opulent stone palaces.
A bill to legalize medical marijuana in South Carolina will get precedence standing and be taken up on special order subsequent week, the measure’s sponsor stated at a rally within the state Capitol on Wednesday.
